![]() Yesterday, director Ron Howard posted on social media that Donald Glover, the Community actor playing Lando Calrissian in the new Han Solo Anthology movie, is finished with his role. Is the Han Solo movie done with shooting most of its scenes? Sounds like things are going smoothly after Kathleen Kennedy and Disney axed 21 Jumpstreet directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller. I can't believe that in the next nine months we are going to get TWO Star Wars movies. Howard has been enthusiastic on Twitter about his new role. I think we're going to be in for a treat with the Han Solo movie. Until tomorrow, may the force be with you.

![]() In the wake of Lucasfilm's announcement that they are indeed developing an anthology movie about Obi-Wan Kenobi, Omega Underground just recently uncovered the title of the movie: Joshua Tree. All U2 jokes aside, I believe this means the movie will be set on Tattoine. That bodes well for my theory that we will see the Obi-Wan between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, which means that we'll see him living alone on a planet by himself protecting Luke. Sounds boring, right? The only time we've seen Obi-Wan during this time is in Star Wars Rebels Season 3, Episode 20 when Darth Maul goes to Tattoine to exact revenge on Kenobi for what happened on Naboo in The Phantom Menace. Maul is (obviously) unsuccessful, but the more important thing is that this means that we have seen Old Obi-Wan on Tattoine and Older Obi-Wan on Tattoine, which means that we will be seeing young Obi-Wan in the movie (hence the Ewan McGregor rumors). More importantly, we'll probably be seeing a younger Obi-Wan on Tattoine in a significant story, not a random side story. This means that there must be something we are still in need of seeing from him on Tattoine. I propose this will be him falling in love with a woman and having a child with her and that child's child growing in the Force and having her or his own child who becomes Rey, the scavenger we see on Jakku. This would tie the 9 movie series together REALLY nicely and give more meaning to Kenobi. Here's to hoping it happens. ![]() Schools in session and tomorrow I embark on the much-maligned task of getting my technology-driven high school students to read a book of their choosing in the next three weeks. I've been doing this for 12 years and I admit that I'm still not great at it. I've seen teachers who read prolifically fail miserably at getting their students to read and I've seen teachers who never read convince their students they should read Book X that they've never even touched. Motivating students to read is an inexact science and, hopefully, I'll get good at it one day. Right now, I've found that the best answer is to find the very best books and then force them into the hands of as many teens as possible in hopes that the readers love it and get the not-so-enthused readers to start the book and hopefully like it themselves. So, without further ado, I give you my top 10 list of science fiction and fantasy books that I've loved reading over the last 5 years. This list will ONLY include those genres. For a list of memoirs, biographies, realistic fiction novels, and autobiographies, we'll have to talk later. Here you go...(This list is legit)
![]() At Star Wars Celebration in Orlando in April, Dave Filoni announced that Star Wars Rebels Season 4 was going to be its last season, but that there would be a new animated series coming out afterward because each generation needs their own Star Wars animated series. So, without further ado, here are some ideas for what we might see in the new animated series: 1. The Old Republic 2. The Rise of the First Order 3. A series after Return of the Jedi about Luke, Han and Leia 4. Obi-Wan or Anakin training as Padawan 5. A Chirrut and Baze backstory as Guardians of the Whills 6. A story about Rey after she's dropped off on Jakku 7. Backstory about Sabine and Mandalore 8. A series after Episode 7 9. A series right before Episode 7 10. Jar-Jar. Just kidding. ![]() It's pretty well-established that the Thor franchise has been disappointing despite Thor himself being a fairly engaging and likeable character (as well as Loki). Thor 1's mistake was having an awestruck and cheesy Natalie Portman play the love interest. Thor 2's mistake was it made no sense; the elves weren't compelling villains and the story was hard to follow, as well as the Natalie Portman problem. Now don't get me wrong: I like Thor 1 and 2 and have watched them multiple times. Marvel did a great job casting Thor and Loki and the story fits within the larger universe. The studio just hasn't executed a plot well. Now comes Thor: Ragnarok. Having not even seen Thor 3, the director and executives creating Ragnarok hav already made some great choices: they cast Cate Blanchett, who plays Mistress Death; they included Dr. Strange in the story, as well as Hulk; they used a Led Zeppelin song in the first trailer to make the story appealing to more audiences; the story includes gladiator fighting in an arena, and they cast Jeff Goldblum as the Collector's brother in the story. What more could you want? Maybe a spoof trailer with Chris Hemsworth trying to assimilate into the Earthian culture? #Daryll Thor 3 will go down as one of the best Marvel movies to date. Unlike its previous iterations, Ragnarok will have great screenwriting ("He's a friend from work!") and a compelling storyline (Thor trying to save Yodenheim and his people from certain Death, and has Avengers Dr. Strange and Hulk. More importantly, Ragnarok will contain story elements that will be directly related with Avengers 3: Infinity War, which has been the culmination of 10 years of Marvel movies. Audiences will be pleasantly surprised with Thor 3 and I can't wait to see it. November 3 can't come any faster. May the Force be with you. ![]() Today, Screenrant and Starwarsnews.net announced today that the Obi-Wan Kenobi Anthology movie is moving forward. This is exciting news considering fans have been waiting for this announcement ever since it was rumored there would be a Boba Fett anthology movie. Obi-Wan is a much more compelling choice for the anthology movie because it will connect to the new saga and explain where Rey came from. If you've read my previous posts you've seen that I believe that he is THE Jedi we've been looking for, not any of the Skywalkers (although they've definitely been a key element of the Star Wars story) and that he is Rey's grandfather. I predicted early on that the next anthology movie would be an Obi-Wan movie and even predicted that it wouldn't be an official announcement until after Episode VIII, when we'll find out Rey's parentage. This makes sense because once the audience finds out that Rey is a Kenobi, then they'll want to know how Obi-Wan came to have a child (that became the Chosen One). This will make the Obi-Wan anthology extremely compelling for audiences and, I predict, will move audiences to come in droves to see (essentially) Rey's backstory. I can't wait to see The Last Jedi in December and, if I'm right about Rey being a Kenobi, it will make the Obi-Wan movie a must-see. I guess we'll see on December 15. May the Force be with you. ![]() Salt Lake Comic Con has been an ongoing event in Utah since September 2013, when William Shatner and Peter Mayhew were the headlining attendees. Since that time, the Con has become the second largest of its kind in the United States, runner-up to only San Diego Comic Con and has been privileged to have Mark Hamill, Jeremy Renner, Famke Jansson, Karl Urban, Carrie Fisher, Patrick Stewart, Chris Evans, Stan Lee, Jason Momoa, John Rhys-Davies, Evanna Lynch, and Billy Boyd attend, to name a few. Salt Lake Comic Con is growing and it has been fun to watch as the years have gone by. Yesterday, Dan Farr and Bryan Brandenburg announced that Elijah Wood will be coming this September to the 5th annual Comic Con on Friday the 22nd and Saturday the 23rd. Wood starred as Frodo in Peter Jackson's immensely popular movie adaptation of The Lord of the Rings. This is HUGE for Utah, especially since we are a smaller market and a younger Con than New York and San Diego. Wood is a fairly young headliner and even though his best work is behind him, I can only imagine his experience will benefit us, especially if he really enjoys his time here. Wood will probably open the floodgates for other, similarly popular actors to attend (I'm looking at you Daisy Ridley, Daniel Radcliffe, Chris Pine, Jennifer Lawrence, Henry Cavill, and Chris Hemsworth). A man can dream, can't he? Other Hollywood attendees this year include Dick Van Dyke, Val Kilmer, John Cusack, Michael Rooker, Rob Schneider, Stephen Amell, Richard Dean Anderson, Milo Ventimiglia, John Barrowman, and Gates McFadden. In addition, authors such as Patrick Rothfuss, Brandon Sanderson, Timothy Zahn, and Claudia Gray will be there, as well as Jim Butcher, Brandon Mull, and EK Johnston. Can't wait. It's going to be amazing. May the Force Be with You. A couple of days ago I posted my favorite protagonists of all-time so I thought I'd complete the circle of life and post my favorite antagonists. Yes, I know, I'm limited in my viewing and reading. Here's to hoping I can continue reading and watching more so that I can have a more diverse list. My favorite movie and TV series antagonists:

![]() I've been watching the BBC version of Sherlock Holmes this week and I've just really enjoyed the character development. Benedict Cumberbatch plays a GREAT Sherlock (hopefully he'll come to Salt Lake Comic Con one day) and Bilbo...errr...Martin Freeman plays a great Dr. John Watson. I can't wait to watch each episode so I can see how the characters develop; currently I'm waiting for Sherlock to gain some more compassion and Watson to become more invested in helping Sherlock, which I believe will come in time. Great characters make a great story. Which got me thinking: What are some of the greatest characters I've ever read about or seen on-screen? Well, after much research into my own readings, here they are and, in hopes that you won't judge too harshly, I readily admit my characters don't come from a variety of stories. My criteria for picking my characters is below. After you've read, please respond in the comments below with your favorite characters.

![]() It was a simple story of boy who was lost and a girl who was broken. Yes, Star Wars Rebels fans, the Season 3 Digital and Blu-Ray release date has been set for Rebels: August 29th. The momentum of the rebels story has been building since the final episode of Season 2, Twilight of the Apprentice, and in the third season, we'll see them face their greatest foe, Grand Admiral Thrawn, as well as see the end of Darth Maul once and for all. I highly recommend Season 3 of Star Wars Rebels and, if the rumors are true, the upcoming Season 4 is filled with some of the greatest animated episodes ever. May the Force be with you. |
